Peterboro Basket Company’s basket making legacy began in 1854 when Amzi Childs and Asa Henry began weaving baskets in Peterborough, New Hampshire. With a reputation for making a variety of durable, versatile baskets out of Appalachian White Ash, their small company attracted many an enterprising businessman and was bought and sold multiple times before settling in the hands of Walter Hood in 1962. Of his newfound profession, Hood has been known to say, "I like making baskets. They're one of the oldest creations of man. They date to before my time. I love my work”. It’s that same passion that’s made Peterboro an industry leader, one that has yet to forget the careful attention to detail with which Amzi Childs wove his first basket 150 years ago.
